Federal Female Club Basketball Tournament Kicks Off in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Female Club Basketball Tournament began with great enthusiasm on Monday at Hamidi Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. The tournament, featuring eight teams from across the capital, is organized by Right to Play in collaboration with Alliance Française and supervised by the Federal Basketball Association.

The opening ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Federal Secretary for Education Mohiuddin Wani, who graced the event as the Chief Guest. Fabrice Disdier, representing Alliance Française, was the Guest of Honour. Other notable attendees included Ali Khayam, Country Director for Right to Play, Ouj E Zahoor, General Secretary of the Federal Basketball Association, as well as the wife of the French Ambassador, a former international basketball player, and the wife of the Polish Ambassador, who both extended their support to the athletes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Federal Secretary Mohiuddin Wani praised the participants, saying, “We are delighted to see such incredible talent and dedication from our female athletes. This tournament is a testament to the potential of women’s sports in Pakistan, and we are committed to supporting initiatives that empower young athletes.”

The tournament aims to provide a competitive platform for female basketball players, promote sportsmanship, and highlight the growing interest in women’s sports in the region.

A Collaborative Effort for Women’s Empowerment

The event is part of a collaborative effort between Right to Play and Alliance Française, reflecting their shared commitment to fostering greater female participation in sports. By partnering with the Federal Basketball Association, the organizers aim to create opportunities for women athletes to showcase their skills and further the cause of women’s empowerment through sports.

The tournament is set to run throughout the week, culminating in a thrilling final where the best of Islamabad’s female basketball talent will compete for the championship trophy.
