ISLAMABAD: Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting, inaugurated Aliya Agha Academy of Internal Arts in Islamabad. The Academy aims to impart courses in the domain of holistic wellness including mental, emotional and physical health. 

The founder of the Academy, Aliya Agha, a lawyer turned into wellness coach, informed the participants that even though man has made great advances in technology yet, there is unprecedented rise in the autoimmune diseases. “We are making capitals of diseases”. She added. Anxiety disorders are the most common illness to affect children and youth due to discontent and disillusionment. The goal of the Academy is to empower individuals & communities to become instruments of peace and compassion, with certified courses addressing all dimensions of wellness (mental, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, physical, etc).

The Academy will offer courses such as introduction to Sufism, laughter therapy and vibration therapy. There are certification courses on art therapy and yoga teacher training. The certification will enable the students to undertake employment, nationally and internationally  

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan lauded the initiative as the need of the hour. At the occasion Nigar Nazar, the first Pakistani female cartoonist and social change activist also presented her work and spoke of art as directly impacting wellness and wellbeing. 

Anne Ostby, author and journalist from Norway, enlightened the audience on a writer’s  journey towards wellbeing. She said that creative writing can represent both resistance and refuge

The Academy will offer courses in meditation, Sufi studies, art therapy, laughter therapy and innovative corporate programs for promoting efficient and productive work force.
