Stream to cross to go to school

EducationStream to cross to go to school
By: Asem Mustafa

The schools have opened and there are many an issues children are faced with along with their teachers besides parents.

The planning regretfully was not in place and the Standard Operating Procedures though clear yet left a lot to be desired as not all schools and their infrastructures were kept in mind.

The world is now bracing itself for the second wave of the Coronavirus and many a cities are now re-imposing the lock downs.

The picture tells it all education a luxury in Pakistan is not same for all. The Prime Minister Imran Khan has a vision in which he wants everyone to have a level playing field and is against the segmentation of education system.

There have been scores of meetings of the academicians deliberating over the curriculum and a consensus as in implementation is yet to be achieved.

The two girls in school uniforms are crossing a dirty sewage stream which cannot be crossed if it rains and their quest for knowledge is commendable as they fight against the odds to seek knowledge.

This picture also tells the difference of class when compared with ‘elite schools’ in posh localities where children compete in showing off their branded bags and latest model cars.

The need of the hour is remove that class difference from the society and this can only be possible when every student come under the umbrella of one course and one syllabus.

The efforts are there only time will tell how sincere it was for the good of the country. The girls in the picture raise many a questions.

Capital Development Authority was formed when Islamabad was announced as capital and there have so many things that can result in inquiries for officials who have been glued to their posts for ages.

The choked sewage streams, dilapidated parks are all there and a real eye sore contrary to the slogan ‘Islamabad the beautiful’. How much money CDA generates from its sector development and where does it go remains to be made clear. They have not opened up any residential sector in the last 25 years which indicates that all is not well within the CDA.

The officials who have been placed in Islamabad administration for decades have only made themselves super glued to their positions and their focus has been their position of power and nothing else.

This picture tells about the difficulty of the school going children who are crossing the sewage stream which in case of rain has a dangerous flow. The background of the picture shows the filth which was never removed and ended up in the stream. Should someone come and knock at CDA with a magic wand to make it work again or should there be a cleansing operation to remove the corrupt black sheep from the authority and make a example out of them. The scribe leaves this option open for the decision makers.
