Is Turkey also Joining the War in the Middle East?

By: Kanan Novruzov

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed the United States for the situation in the Middle East. He said about this in a statement to journalists while returning from a trip to Egypt.

According to him, the bloodshed in Gaza has not stopped yet: “Israeli attacks continue.” Calls for peace were fruitless as a result of negative US influence. The US says it has sent some officials to the region to solve this case, but no results have been achieved.

Erdogan emphasized that despite all this, Turkey continues to work for peace and stability: “Because there is no other way out. When Western officials contact us, we say the same thing to them.”

The main direction of the US foreign policy course is to increase its influence in different regions by creating tension in different regions. This is not an exception for the Middle East.

Official Washington uses its proxies to secure its interests in various regions, including the Middle East. The policy in question is implemented through Armenia in the South Caucasus, Ukraine in Eastern Europe, and Israel in the Middle East.

The war between Israel and Hamas in the Middle East, which has been going on since October 2023, is not expected to end anytime soon. On the contrary, the scale of the war is expanding. Tel Aviv does not want to retreat. One reason for this is Israel’s firm position on the elimination of Hamas, and the other is the role of the United States in the process. Washington repeats its actions in Eastern Europe in the Middle East: the US support for Israel and the aid provided to this state make the war longer.

Ankara and Washington have different positions regarding the Middle East. This inevitably affects the bilateral relations between the parties.

In fact, the disagreement between the parties manifests itself in other regions, including Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus. In this sense, it does not seem reasonable that the “cold winds” will subside in the near future, let alone the partial agreement of the parties on some bilateral issues, including the supply of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey. At least as long as there is a change of power in the United States, the current tension will continue.

Every passing day diminishes the possibility of peace in the Middle East. This is not in accordance with the interests of official Ankara in the region. It is possible that the scale of the battles will expand further in the future. This may lead to increased tension on the Turkey-US line and Turkey’s military intervention.
