2024 General Elections: Average of 19 Candidates Compete for Each National Assembly Seat

ISLAMABAD: The 2024 General Elections in Pakistan saw an unusual participation of candidates across the nation. Though the elections are viewed as the most controversial ones but according to data analyzed by Gallup Pakistan’s Digital Analytics team, a staggering total of 5,115 individuals threw their hats into the political arena, marking one of the highest numbers of candidates in recent electoral history.

It has also been found that, on average, 19 candidates were vying for each National Assembly seat, showcasing the vibrant diversity of voices competing for representation.

Diving into the provincial breakdown, the Punjab Assembly witnessed the largest pool of contenders, with 6,728 candidates competing for seats, while Balochistan boasted the most crowded races, averaging 25 candidates per seat.

Notably, certain constituencies stood out for their particularly intense competitions. NA-255 (Sohbat Pur cum Jaffarabad…) emerged as the battleground with the highest number of candidates, a staggering 46 in total, closely followed by NA-103, NA-046, NA-263, and NA-102.

Conversely, a handful of constituencies experienced a more modest field of candidates, with NA-003 (Swat 2), NA-008 (Bajaur), NA-010 (Buner), NA-014 (Mansehra), and NA-194 (Larkana 1) each seeing only 8 contenders.

This surge in candidate participation underscores the enthusiasm and engagement of the Pakistani electorate in shaping the future of their nation through the ballot box.
