PML-N leader Raja Ashfaq Sarwar takes his last breath

MURREE: Former three times provincial minister and General Secretary of PML(N) Punjab, Raja Ashfaq Sarwar passed away after a prolonged illness on Saturday at the age of 65. He was laid to rest in his native town Gora Gali of Murree Tehsil.

Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, who remained associated with the PML-N during turbulent periods faced by the party leadership had been in coma since August 2018.

Former Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan, Sr. leader PML(N) Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, PML(N) Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, Parliamentary leader of PML(N) in National Assembly Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Gen. Sec. PML(N) Ahsan Iqbal, Ex-Deputy Speaker NA Murtaza Javed, expressed their deepest sorrow and grief over the demise of the senior party leader. PML(N) local leaders, Raja Daftar Abbasi, Haq Nawaz Abbasi, Haji Axreen, Shahid Aftab Abbasi, Zafar Abbasi, Sadam Aijaz Abbasi and others also expressed sorrow over the loss of senior politician.

During his long political career, he was elected as MPA in 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997 and 2013 from Murree-Kotli Sattian of District Rawalpindi. He also served as the PML-N Punjab secretary-general.

He had held various portfolios in Punjab over his career including Minister for Youth Affairs, Minister for Forestry Wildlife & Fisheries, Minister for Health and lately was minister for Labour and Men power in PML(N) led government.

The deceased Sarwar left behind a wife, two sons Raja Usama Sarwar & Raja Abdullah Sarwar, a daughter and two brothers Raja Shafique Sarwar and Raja Atique Sarwar.

Raja Ashfaq Sarwar was born in Rawalpindi, hailing from Gora Gali village of Murree Tehsil he was the eldest son of Raja Ghulam Sarwar (late) a two-time member of West Pakistan Assembly.
