LAHORE: National Youth Alliance on Family Planning and Sexual Reproductive Health (NYA-FPSRH) launched an online campaign on social media to submit joint recommendations to relevant governments’ departments on family planning. The online campaign has been initiated in the light of the recent UNICEF report on expected five million childbirths in Pakistan in nine months after the Covid-19 outbreak was classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The National Youth Alliance on Family Planning and Sexual Reproductive Health (NYA-FPSRH) was founded by Youth Advocacy Network (YAN) in 2018 in line with Suo Moto Action by the then Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar.

NYA-FPSRH consists of Youth-led Organizations and young leaders from Pakistan. NYFP-SRH is led by Youth Advocacy Network with The Dayspring, Channan Development Association, Work to Empower, WANG, Social Sangat, iHELP and Kafka Welfare Society as part of the core committee.

In another report by United Nations, Pakistan named among 10 countries where deaths from preventable diseases in children under five could rise by almost 45 per cent over the next six months as the coronavirus pandemic could divert scarce health resources. Poorer nations in Africa, Asia and Latin America could see an additional 1.2 million infants die over the period, according to the study published by The Lancet Global Health. According the published study based on computer model about 56,700 more maternal deaths could also occur in six months, beyond the 144,000 deaths that already take place in the same 118 countries, a rise of about 40 per cent.

During the online meeting, the core committee agreed to launch an online campaign on social media and submit joint recommendations to relevant governments’ departments on family planning in light of the recent UNICEF report on Child Births the following year and other relevant reports by the authorized agencies from the platform of NYA-FPSRH.

The meeting was attended by Fsahat Ul-Hassan from Youth Advocacy Network (YAN), Asim Nawaz Abbasi from The Dayspring, Fiaz Hanif from Channan Development Association, Umair from Kafka Welfare Society, Khalid Mir from Social Sangat and Anum Ali Laghari from iHelp. Moreover, Danish Tariq and Mommnah Asad from YAN attended as observers.
