Pakistani Transgender Activist Saro Imran is awarded by Rosemary Mbabazi, Minister of Youth, Rwanda (Ministry in charge of Youth Connekt) and Nathan McKenzie – Chief Operating Officer Royal Commonwealth Society UK for her two-year tenure with Commonwealth Youth Gender & Equality Network UK for advocacy for Gender Equality.

The Commonwealth Youth Gender Equality Network (CYGEN) is a youth-led, and focused network that actively promotes and supports the meaningful inclusion of youth voices on gender equality issues in local, national, regional, Commonwealth and international agendas.

CYGEN seeks to improve the position of young people and advocate for increased youth engagement and participation in existing structures, processes and governance. CYGEN affords young people the opportunity to voice their concerns on gender equality issues that not only affect them, but that impact the variety of communities in which they live.

Saro served in their Executive Committee from 2020-2022. Each executive holds a thematic portfolio representing one of CYGEN’s focus areas and the Coordinator is responsible for administering, coordinating and representing the network. Saro has worked for Gender identity and expression thematic area and contributed in various things like development of a global peer support network for sexual and gender minorities and research work on economic justice of transgender people through entrepreneurship that is soon to be published by Royal Commonwealth society UK.
