Shahid Khaqan Abbasi barred from contesting polls from NA-57

An Election Tribunal on Wednesday sustained an appeal against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s candidature in NA-57  (Murree), disqualifying him from contesting elections from the constituency.

The appellant tribunal chaired by Justice Ibadul Rehman Lodhi of the Lahore High Court (LHC) also rejected nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Fawad Chaudhry for NA-67 (Jhelum-II), Amir Kiyani and Sardar Ghulam Abbas for NA-64 (Chakwal-I).

The decision came on appeals filed by the candidates’ opponents against the returning officers (ROs) decision to accept the nomination papers
