Who drives the law?

PakistanWho drives the law?
By: Asem Mustafa

ISLAMABAD: Not an uncommon site in Pakistan where law enforcement personnel have developed a close association with the criminals and convicts and share a bond of trust and too somewhat affection.

The picture speaks for itself the man is in handcuffs and is driving the motorcycle without number plate and to add on top of that is the policeman who sits behind holding the cuffs.

How many laws are challenged in this photo, this scribe leave this for the law makers and the breakers besides the readers.

There are reports from different Inspectors General of Police in Pakistan who have highlighted that police is corrupt and has criminals who wear the uniform and are the rotten eggs in the force.

These police officials have one unanimous view that police should be free from political interference. The past regimes in order to oblige their voters have inducted many an individuals who were used as stooges for their own vested gains in arm twisting and moulding the public through tactis that were foul.

Model Town incident is one such example where police killed innocent men, women and children and the one of the woman killed with gunshot was pregnant. Nobody is hanged to date as investigations despite pictures and video evidence are still incomplete.

Those who shot should be made an example but law of the land in the land of the pure works in mysterious ways and regrettably has always been a total disappointment. Upholding the law requires justice and sadly the justice is not seen anywhere.

There are countless atrocities done by this repressive force and has blood stains splattered all over the country.

Police official Muffakhar Adeel in Lahore is one such story that is tip of the ice berg, Naqeebullah Mehsud case with Rao Anwar are few examples in police hierarchy while lower down the order the tales are horrifying. The district courts in the country have many a people who have been pursuing the cases against police officials who have been involved in killings of their loved ones.

Years have passed but justice as always will be a distant dream for these people who will join their deceased loved ones in pursuit of justice which will be administered in the times immemorial.

There is near possibility of any system will be in place where the murder accused should face the same punishment as it meted out on its victim.

Zainab Murder Case, Kasur scandal, lynching in Sialkot, Bahria Town 7 year old Zohra, Sahiwal murder case are few to begin with there are many others and the accused enjoy the government jobs and perks and continue the unabated killing spree as usual.

This picture shows it all as how police and criminals are knitted together in pursuit of making life miserable for an ordinary man who will never get the justice he seeks from the corrupt and incorrigible system.
