Fashion and its effects on our society

By: Aiman Hafiz

Fashion is a Statement, Not a Style. Fashion does not have to be worn casually, not outside the Runway. Fashion is fit for all sizes for all people of all ages. Fashion is an art of personal Self-Expression, not an excuse to be pretty, popular and charismatic. Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the Sky, in the Street. Fashion is a style of Life. Fashion is the only game you can win by breaking the rules.

One big reason why Fashion is Important is because what you wear defines you. It makes you comfortable and at ease. Styling something that is fashionable and trendy makes you look great within, and more importantly when you know you look great, your self-confidence scales totally to a different level.

Nowadays, fashion is still recognition for your status or social group in a way or another. What I mean is that fashion is a way of Self-Expression. You can either choose to play with it or let others decide what your outfit tells about you.

Because for survival you have to go with the flow a bit. Fashion is a Self-Expression. Being a Fashion Designer, for me fashion is more than Self-Expression. Fashion is a mean of Self-Empowerment and Confidence. My clothes would change something within me. Sometimes I will feel more comfortable, confident with myself because I am wearing a specific pair of shoes or an outfit. Go on shopping and choose what you want. I feel very satisfy whenever I wear something I truly like. I feel good in it. It helps me to build confidence and Self-Esteem. I can say everyone is fashion. I am a fashion. I wear whatever I want. I can wear according to my mood. If there is any meeting or other gathering, I will wear according to these situations. The best in fashion for me, I am who I am. I show the world who I      am and I feel more confident about it.

Is fashion a name of nudity?

It is very disheartening how lately, in the name of fashion many people dress exposing, some vital parts of their body to the public. Indeed every single part of the body is very vital but some, in my opinion, are to be ‘private’.

Walk into most of the offices and the receptionist who are usually females welcome you and what you see after the welcome is the cleavage of their breast or the breast itself almost fully exposed. Go to some banks and the story is not different after you have observed most of the tellers.

Go the markets, walk on the streets, attend all kinds of events and you will be greeted with such disturbing scenes.

Even some presenters and news anchors on national televisions are also guilty of this ‘offense’.

What is our society turning into? What is more worrying? Hitherto, back of a lady, the cleavage of the breast, the stomach, the buttocks, the things among others are not to be seen by anybody except one’s spouse. But in recent times, all these vital parts of a lady are seen by the public before she gets married and even after marriage all because of fashion. You would see some ladies dressed provocatively yet the leaders or boss don’t see anything wrong with it or even when they see something wrong with it, they fail to talk for fear of losing them.
