Sahiwal incident irks Civil Society

Islamabad: January 21, 2019: Sahiwal incident has left many in a state of anger and sorrow. Members of Civil Society, Social Activists, Child Rights Advocates, Human rights activists, students, teachers, parents and journalists are condemned Sahiwal incident in which the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel shot dead four people including three of a family on Saturday 19, Jan 2019. A press conference organized by Child Rights Movement to protest at the National Press Club on Monday.

In a press Conference, the speakers demanded justice for the victims and exemplary punishment for the murderers. They criticized the government’s failure to provide protection to children. The brutal killing of parents in front of children will have a deep psychologically impact and destroyed their childhood. The Children will never forget violence initiated by law enforcement agencies and remain in trauma for whole life. This incident raised the concern of parents in the country and insecurity for their children.

They emphasized The State should act responsibly to protect citizens especially children, instead of defending extra judicial killings by law enforcement agencies and conduct a transparent probe into the matter. They said the incident proved that police reforms were needed throughout the country.

The Speakers, said “killers of parents in front of their children have no fear of Allah,” and “don’t you have children?” and demanded Stop the killing of innocent civilians and children.
