The Intersection of Youth and AI: Exploring the Possibilities

By: Muzammil Muhammad Khan

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the world we live in, and young people are at the forefront of this transformation. From AI-powered education tools to virtual assistants and social media algorithms, young people are interacting with and shaping technology in ways that were unimaginable just a few decades ago. With this rapid change comes new challenges and opportunities. As we move further into the 21st century, it’s becoming increasingly important to think about the ways that AI is impacting the lives of young people and how we can ensure that these impacts are positive and equitable.

In this blog post, we’ll look at the ways that AI is already changing the job market, the ethical dilemmas it presents, and the potential benefits it could offer to young people. We’ll also highlight some key AI tools being used at wide range in industries and applications as well as some of the challenges it possess.

As AI continues to transform industries ranging from health care to finance, its creating new opportunities for the youth to learn, grow, and make a difference. Young people are engaging with AI technologies rapidly in ways that are both exciting and impactful. AI offers opportunities in all the fields, such as personalized learning in education, helping entrepreneurs in driving their startups, job creation in data sciences and machine learning, automated and AI-driven industrial and manufacturing units. It has created vast and innovative opportunities for young people to pursue their careers in the field of AI such as big data engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, business intelligence developers, research scientists, product manager, AI engineers, AI data analysts, robotics scientists, and NPL engineers. Another major change AI can bring is in the lives of people and children with physical disabilities by providing them assistance in their tasks, as a scoping review of the literature has shown (Kaelin et al., 2021).

AI is constantly and rapidly evolving, but in this blog we have discussed some of the major AI tools being used today. Machine learning libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit-learn are commonly used for developing machine learning models. Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools like NLTK, Spacy, ChatGPT and Stanford CoreNLP are used for text processing, sentiment analysis, and other NLP tasks. Computer Vision tools like OpenCV, Dlib, and TensorFlow Object Detection API are used for image and video processing. Tools like Dialogflow, IBM Watson Assistant, and Amazon Lex are used for building conversational agents or chatbots. Business Intelligence tools like Tableau, Power BI, and QlikView use AI and machine learning to analyze large datasets and provide insights. Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) tools like H2O.ai, DataRobot, and Google AutoML allow non-experts to create machine learning models without extensive coding skills. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools like UiPath, Blue Prism, and Automation Anywhere use AI and machine learning to automate repetitive tasks. These tools can be very useful for our youth in their digital tasks.

AI has significant and far-reaching effects on IT sector as well. It has both positive and negative impacts. It has enabled automation of many IT related works and processes like data entry, software testing, and network monitoring. AI has also improvised the costumer services with chatbots and other virtual assistants. It has also increased the efficiency of IT sector services like predicting equipment failure, optimizing resources allocation, and reducing downtime. Productivity and security of IT sector is increased with the help of AI. But apart from these positive impacts, AI has some negative impacts on IT sector as well, like major job displacement in the fields of content writing, graphic designing and programming. Other negative impacts include lack of accountability and possible breach of privacy.

While AI has generated a lot of opportunities for the youth, it has also given rise to many challenges and potential risks such as job displacement, ethical dilemmas, algorithmic bias, and issues of security and privacy. With this rapid influx of AI in businesses, the jobs of a majority of people are endangered. AI can work more faster and efficiently then humans.

Young people can use all these AI tool on Internet and make their lives more efficient and exciting. It is important for the youth to keep in mind the pros and cons of AI while interacting with it. It is pertinent to think about the steps to make AI safer and more useful for the betterment of society. While developing an AI model, the fairness in its decision making must be kept in mind to address the mistaken bias and discrimination. We should find ways to ensure that all young people, specially students have access to the benefits of AI, regardless of their background or location. By taking a thoughtful and responsible approach to AI development and use, we can create a future where young people can thrive and make a positive impact on the world.
